The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has noted with grave concern the rape allegations levelled against a doctor at Port Shepstone Hospital.

What is of serious concern is that the incident is alleged to have taken place within a health facility, during Women's Month, and against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to address Gender Based Violence, which has ravaged our country.

Noting that this is a criminal matter, which falls under the ambit of the competent law enforcement authorities, the Department is unable to comment further, suffice to mention that the alleged perpetrator has been served with a letter of suspension while in a correctional facility.
