Durban: The KZN Health Portfolio Committee today commenced its two-day Empowerment and Planning Session, where KZN MEC for Health, Ms. Nomagugu Simelane, led the Department of Health delegation in briefing the committee on several key areas:
The first day was marked by robust and productive engagements. Presentations from Provincial Treasury, the Auditor General, and the Department of Health were well-received by the Portfolio Committee, who carefully scrutinised the department's budget constraints.
MEC Simelane expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the committee, noting the importance of aligning the department's plans with the committee's oversight role.
"This session is vital as it allows the department and the committee to collaborate at the start of the seventh administration. Such interaction is essential for effective oversight, particularly in reviewing the efficient use of resources within the department," said Simelane.
"We welcome today's discussions with humility. The frankness and honesty of the session were refreshing, and we are committed to addressing all issues raised. We will ensure that commitments made are followed through and implemented," concluded Simelane.
Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Dr Imran Keeka emphasised that the session is a crucial part of the committee's oversight process, setting the framework for its work during the seventh administration. He said it also provides important updates on the departmental budget outlook.
